Definition: A data storage model or template that defines the attributes for a specific type or range of values. It acts to formalize the requirements for data of specific types so that all of the attributes needed to process the data are known by a receiver. This includes simple types such as integer, boolean, and string as well as complex types such as quantity and coded value.
