Pre-coordination does not require explicit structure within the system. "Arm" is precoordinated, whether or not it is fully defined (e.g., as "extremity" + "has anteriority" + "upper").

In the Snomed CT User Guide the term Precoordinated expression is used. This is described as a representation of a clinical meaning using a single concept identifier is referred to as a pre-coordinated expression.
